Snowflake Club Trip Determination Policy

Weather

Weather can be very unpredictable during the season.  All the local area ski resorts have state-of-the-art snowmaking capabilities.  There does not need to be snow out your window for us to go skiing or riding so please, do not hesitate to sign up for trips.  We have links to the ski resorts with current weather conditions, directions, and much more.  On rare occasions, weather conditions such as dangerous driving conditions or below-zero temperatures can cause us to cancel a trip.  Please continue reading for temperature and travel policies.

Temperature

Air temperature vs Wind Chill/Feels Like. We use a chart put out by NOAA (The National Weather Service) to determine the following:

If the combination of air temperature is above 0 degrees and 10mph of sustained winds or less is predicted, the trip will run as scheduled.

If a combination of below-zero temperatures and 15mph or greater of sustained winds is predicted, we will cancel the trip.

The decision to run/cancel a trip will be made 48 hours in advance of the trip.

(In a very rare case if something drastic changes in a temperature forecast the decision could be made on the morning of the trip. Cancellations are posted on the home page of the snowflake website and emails are sent to the members participating in the trip.)

Travel

We always take into consideration road conditions for trip travel. This often can come down to us having to make a call the morning of a trip. The bus company has full-time professional drivers who are experienced in all kinds of road conditions. If they have any problems with predicted conditions, they notify us. Cancellations are posted on the home page of the snowflake website and emails are sent to the members participating in the trip.

Rain

If they are forecasting ½ inch or more of steady rain, we will cancel the trip. If it is occasional showers, members have the opportunity to go in and out of the lodge to take breaks when the rain is occurring. Believe it or not we have had many successful trips where kids have a fantastic time even with a little rain! Cancellations are posted on the home page of the snowflake website and emails are sent to the members participating in the trip.
